An open letter to all South Carolina Elks
Dear Fellow Elks:
Did you know the Federal Government has appropriated funds to create six new National Cemeteries? With your help we can possibly have one allocated to this wonderful State. National Cemeteries currently located in our State are almost full.
The Deputy V.A.V.S. (Veterans Administration Service Commission) Chairperson of Union Lodge No. 1321 Iverson G. Vanderford desperately needs your help and support. Please petition, call, write or e-mail your State Senators and Congressmen to help in this matter. Located in Union County/Whitmire area this Cemetery is essential for burial of the large military population in South Carolina. The location which is three to four hundred acres is in a historical area were battles were fought to make this country what it is today. Would it not be appropriate to lay in rest those who have maintained our nations freedom in this newly created cinerary?
Please lets band together as a unified force and make a commitment to helping Mr. Vanderford with this project. Lets unite as an unrelenting force to make this a reality.
I have hyperlinked data that will give you a greater understanding of this area’s historical location and it’s general location. Send this and all information to those who can help us in our cause. Click here to view historical background and cemetery siting.
Will we be successful? I don’t have that answer. That’s up to the powers that be. But, we will be successful with our initiative if you will just try.
Sincerely,
Raymond F. Thompson
